My siblings and I had a strong upbringing. We always had everything we needed and some things we wanted.  We were taught that if we worked hard we could achieve our greatest aspirations. Once I began my teenage years, I began to rebel against those teachings. Hanging with the wrong crowd introduced me to drugs and alcohol. While still a teenager, I had a child and realized I was not going to be able to graduate.

As time passed, I had a few good jobs and eventually married at the age of 38. Despite the fact that I worked for a printing company, a bakery, and drove a semi, I was still unfulfilled. I began to research and decided to go for my high school diploma online, while simultaneously being enrolled at a local community college, with the hopes of becoming a nurse. Tragically, I lost my granddaughter and the pressure was too great to continue my education. My heart was broken. I felt as if a two ton weight had fallen on me.

Just when I was about to give up, my partner came home one day and told me that he had signed both of us up for GED classes.  He encouraged me to keep moving forward and continue my dream of being a nurse. I have also dedicated my life to helping inspire other adults who are working towards their high school diploma. My faith in God and the realization that if I take one negative thing out of my life at a time, while adding one positive, anything is possible. Never give up. I just want people to know that there is always hope.
